The registration for INVAP’s National Contest for the Best Engineering Thesis ended with a great participation of students from all over the country. The contest, which acknowledges the Argentine talent and highlights the value of applied research in the engineering universe, received 138 applications from all regions of Argentina.
The works correspond to 46 educational institutions, both public (75%) and private (25%). A total of 176 thesis students participated in this second edition, 60 of them women, representing 34% of the total, an increase of 6% over the 2023 edition.
Roxana Cocco, President of the Jury, highlighted the percentage of women in this edition: “As a woman in engineering, I welcome the fact that this number is up from 25 years ago, but I think it can go even higher. We hope that the competition will also grow, with more provinces represented and with greater participation of young women engineers,” she said.
Among the 37 careers involved in this second call for applications, the following stand out in terms of participation: Doctorate in Engineering (13%), Industrial Engineering (13%), Electronic Engineering (12%) and Biomedical Engineering (9%), followed by Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and other disciplines. The theses submitted compete for more than nine million Argentine pesos in prizes.
As last year, this call reaffirms the objective of “acknowledging talent and encouraging new generations to study engineering,” added Cocco, the Materials Engineer. “To those young people, we say that engineering provides the opportunity to make a real difference in the world, to create solutions that benefit society and to leave a mark in history, that is the spirit of INVAP that is so well reflected in this contest,” she concluded.
The jury has already begun the evaluation stage, which will be extended during July and August. The announcement of the shortlists selected for each category will be made during the first week of September 2024 and the awards will be announced in September or October, the month of the 48th anniversary of the company’s creation.
