On November 23, the thirteen winners of the “Nanotechnologists for a Day” Contest, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation through the Argentine Nanotechnology Foundation (FAN, in Spanish), visited the headquarters of INVAP (Applied Research Company).

Accompanied by teachers, the students —two of which were from San Carlos de Bariloche— visited Balseiro Institute laboratories and then toured INVAP’s facilities with great interest and enthusiasm.

The aim of the “Nanotechnologists for a Day” Contest is to disseminate nanotechnology among the young generation in Argentine technical high-schools, stimulate the teenagers’ scientific and technological creativity, and encourage them to consider scientific-technological careers as an option in their vocational horizon.

High-school students from all over the country submitted monographs on nanotechnology to take part in the contest. Among the one hundred papers received, the nine most outstanding ones were selected by the evaluation committee, made up of ten researchers from different national institutions and from the public diffusion department of the FAN.

The contest has been national in scope and included teacher training courses, lectures for students and, following them, the preparation of monographs on nanotechnology. The winners had the chance to visit some of the most important Argentine laboratories and to carry out experiments together with highly regarded researchers from our country.
